DAY 1: Hobart to Bruny Island


Your adventure begins as you depart Hobart and make your way to Kettering, where a short ferry ride transports you to Bruny Island. This island paradise is a haven for nature lovers, boasting rugged coastline, pristine beaches, and lush rainforests. Spend the day exploring the island's highlights, from the towering sea cliffs of Cape Bruny to the tranquil waters of Adventure Bay.

Stay overnight at: Neck beach Campground ($10/2people), where you can fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the shore, surrounded by the beauty of Bruny Island's wilderness.



DAY 2: Bruny Island to Cygnet and Geeveston


After a leisurely morning on Bruny Island, bid farewell to its idyllic shores and make your way to Cygnet, a charming town nestled in the Huon Valley. Explore the town's vibrant arts scene, boutique shops, and quaint cafes, sampling local produce along the way.

If you'r elucky enough to be there around January make sure to time your visit with the Cygnet Folk Festival. This festival celebrates folk music, dance, and storytelling against the backdrop of Tasmania's stunning landscapes. Lose yourself in the rhythms of traditional tunes, join in a lively ceilidh dance, and immerse yourself in the magic of Tasmania's folk music scene. Continue your journey to Geeveston, where you'll discover the rich history of Tasmania's timber industry at the Forest and Heritage Centre. Make sure to enjoy a meal at The Old Bank which offers a dining experience that combines historical charm with contemporary flair. Set within a beautifully restored bank building, this restaurant delights patrons with its innovative menu showcasing locally sourced ingredients. Carry on, cross the street and unwind with a local drink at Harvest and Light wine bar.

In the evening, have a little stroll on the edges of Kermandie River where yo might be lucky enough to see the elusive platypus resident there.


Stay overnight at: Geeveston Caravan Park ($15/2people) a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, where you can unwind after a day of exploration.


DAY 3: Hartz Peak Expedition


On your third day, embark on a day trip from Geeveston to Hartz Peak, a majestic summit in the Hartz Mountains National Park. Lace up your hiking boots and set out on the Hartz Peak Track, a challenging but rewarding trek that offers panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness. Along the way, marvel at the diversity of alpine vegetation and keep an eye out for native wildlife, including pademelons and echidnas. Reach the summit and be rewarded with sweeping vistas of the rugged peaks and pristine lakes below.

Stay overnight at: Return to Geeveston Caravan Park for another night of rest and relaxation, recounting the day's adventures under the starlit sky. Give a try to Massaki Sushi on your second night, this place is exceptional.


DAY 4: Geeveston to Cockle Creek


As you bid farewell to Geeveston, set your sights on Cockle Creek, the southernmost point of Australia accessible by road. The journey takes you through picturesque countryside and coastal landscapes, with opportunities to stop and admire the scenery along the way. Arrive in Cockle Creek and spend the afternoon exploring its secluded beaches, tranquil bushwalks, and historic landmarks. We recommend to arrive mid morning there and start your day with the Fisher Point Trail, an easy 5.5kms return beach trail that is best enjoyed at low tide. Return to your campervan to rest a little and head back out a couple of hours before sunset onto the South Cape Bay Trail (16kms return). Time your arrival on one end with the sunset and witness the meeting of the Southern Ocean and the Tasman Sea in a spectacular display of natural beauty.


Stay overnight at: Cockle Creek Campground (free before the bridge, $12/van passed the bridge as you're then in Southwest National Park), where you can fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the ocean, surrounded by the serenity of Tasmania's wilderness.


DAY 5: Cockle Creek to Hobart via Hastings Caves


As you begin your journey back to Hobart, make a stop to Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs for a relaxing interlude amidst nature's wonders. Explore the underground wonders of Newdegate Cave on a guided tour, marveling at its intricate formations and ancient stalactites. Afterward, unwind in the soothing waters of the thermal springs, soaking up the therapeutic benefits of this natural mineral pool.

Continue your journey to Hobart, passing through picturesque countryside and charming towns of Southport and Dover along the way. Reflect on the memories of your epic adventure as you return to the vibrant city, where your Tasmanian road trip comes to a close.
