Count the Stars, Protect the Night.
In partnership with the Wilderness Society, we need your help to count the stars and protect Tasmania’s dark skies.
Inspire Your Adventure, Protect the Night.
Your campervan journey isn’t just about exploring Tasmania — it’s about quietly leaving your mark. Each night beneath the unspoiled sky invites you to take part in citizen science, helping map and safeguard the Southwest Sky Country.
As you count stars and watch the darkness unfold, you’ll feel a deeper connection to nature. Your presence here supports conservation, inspires others, and helps preserve these magical skies for generations yet to come.

Why it Matters?
Tasmania’s Southwest Sky Country remains one of the world’s last truly dark places. Protecting its night skies matters — for the land, the wildlife, and the stories written in the stars. Dark skies guide the rhythms of countless species and carry deep cultural meaning, connecting to milaythina wurangkili / liwari (Sky Country / night). Light pollution doesn’t just disturb wildlife — it dims the magic of the wilderness and erodes vital scientific knowledge.
Through the Wilderness Society’s Eyes on the Sky citizen science campaign, you can help gather these crucial measurements. Each star you count and every night you spend under this vast sky supports conservation, science, tourism, and cultural heritage — safeguarding Tasmania’s night skies for generations to come.

At pickup, collect your lightweight star counter. Just 200g, it fits easily in your glove box and its battery lasts for weeks.
3. Camp, Look Up & Measure
As you travel Tasmania, pause beneath the night sky. Point your device, count the stars, and collect the data. We’ll send it to the Wilderness Society, helping protect these skies for generations to come.
